Eggnog traditional Christmas drink

                              Eggnog

Eggnog is traditionally consumed throughout Canada and the USA every year,

often from American Thanksgiving through the end of the Christmas season.

eggnog has also gained popularity in Australia.

Eggnog is a drink made of eggs beaten with sugar, milk or cream and often

alcoholic liquor such as rum or wine

The word eggnog doesn ’t have a clear origin. Many think the word stems

from the use of the word “noggin” which means a small, wooden mug. Add an

egg, and you have egg in a noggin, then “eggnog.”

Eggnog roots can be traced as far back as the 14th century to East Anglia,

England, where one of the first versions of eggnog(posset)was ever noted.

But interestingly the premier version of eggnog did not contain eggs. It was,

instead, a hot drink that contained milk, ale, wine, and sweeteners and

spices.

By the time eggnog reached the American colonies, the access to dairy and

chickens had become much easier for the commoner, so too was the

availability of rum. Thus, after harvest time eggnog became the newly

founded country’s favorite spiked drink for the holidays.

By the 18th century, the term eggnog was in use to describe a similar

beverage to the one sold today, although traditionally, eggnog was served as

a hot beverage.

Eggnog is also often homemade.Eggnog flavoring may also be used in other

drinks , such as coffee (e.g. an "eggnog latte" espresso drink) and tea, or to

dessert foods such as egg-custard puddings or eggnog-flavored ice cream

dessert .
